Sumo Design
This
is a workbook documenting the design work
- Dan
Rogantifor the Robot Sumo demonstration used for the SciTech Spectacular at Carnegie Science Center The Sumo robot competitions were introduced
into America by Dr. Mato Hattori from Japan during the early 1990's.
The Seattle Robotics Society were the first to host this competition
with the help from their member, Bill Harrison. Some of the first Robot
Sumo tournaments were organised by him.
Mini SumoBot:The Mini Sumobot kit has a complete description how to build and program this robot. This design can be traced back to early robot sumo designs using the dual wheel and scoop by Bill Harrison of SineRobotics.com. Also, this type of mini sumobot is a version which was derived from Bill Moyer of the Dallas Personal Robotics Group. The Parallax Mino Sumobot can be found here on the Parallax website. Sumo Dohyo: The Mini Sumo competition makes use of a smaller dohyo, only 77cm in diameter. Also, this spec defines the dohyo can be made of wood. So we have a 3/4" piece of birch plywood cut at the right dimension. This has to be painted flat black with a gloss white ring around the edge of the dohyo. The complete Sumo Regulations can be found here. ![]() Visitor
